Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park Given Highly-Encouraging Ofsted Report

Following a visit in the Spring Term, Ofsted inspectors have confirmed that Harris Primary Academy Peckham Park continues to be “Good”.  This is excellent news and is testament to our entire Academy community.

The inspectors have given us a very strong report in which they have praised the way in which we educate and support our pupils as well as the contribution we make to our wider community.  Importantly, the inspectors noticed how happy our pupils are and how much they enjoy their learning.  They complimented our pupils’ behaviour and said that they ‘support each other with kindness and consideration’.

The inspectors were also very impressed with our curriculum – specifically the way we teach reading and the support we give children with Special Educational Needs.  Similarly, the inspectors commended the variety of experiences offered through our enrichment programme of activities and trips.

Here is what the inspectors said about us:

On our fantastic pupils:

  • “Pupils really enjoy learning at this school.”
  • “The inspiring and broad curriculum, along with the school’s calm and nurturing environment, mean that pupils relish learning and enjoy coming to school each day.”
  • “As they work and play, pupils consistently exhibit the school’s values of being respectful, responsible and resilient.”
  • At break times, pupils play with each other in considerate and friendly ways.  They are kind to one another, respect each other and value the views of their peers.”
  • “Pupils’ pride in their school is reflected in how they help out in the school community.”
  • “Behaviour, both inside and outside of lessons, is a strength of the school.”
  • “From Nursery through to Year 6, pupils support each other with kindness and consideration, whether they are learning or enjoying social times together.”

On our high standards of teaching and learning:

  • “Leaders’ and staff’s work is tightly focused on ensuring pupils flourish in their learning and wider development.”
  • “The school has put in place an ambitious and aspirational curriculum for all pupils.”
  • “Pupils’ achievements are strong.”
  • “The curriculum is academically ambitious for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).”

On the importance of reading at the Academy:

  • “The early reading curriculum is carefully designed.”
  • “Leaders have identified a rich repertoire of literature that they want pupils to experience.”
  • The school’s approach to early reading is delivered by a well-trained and skilled staff team.”

On our partnership with parents and our wider community:

  • “The school works successfully with families to remove any barriers to pupils coming to school regularly.  As a result of this, attendance is above the national average and persistent absence is below the national average.”
  • “This is a school facing unique challenges and the community are grateful for the work being done for some of the most vulnerable children in London.”
